Jeep’s most affordable offering in the country, the Compass has received a good response in the country. The American car manufacturer has sold 935 units of the Compass in India in July. The numbers are impressive considering the fact that it is less than a month since the vehicle has been launched in the country. The Compass is available in three variants – Sport, Longitude and Limited.
Moving forward we expect the Compass sales number to rise to around 2,000 units a month in India. The reasons being, its competitive strategic pricing, standard safety equipment, bolder design and premium quotient over the current lot of SUVs like the XUV500 and the D-Segment sedans like the Octavia, Hyundai Elantra and the Corolla Altis in the country. Among the three variants on-offer, the top-spec Compass Limited has found more takers in the country. Reports indicate that the company has received the highest demand for the Limited 4×2, followed by the Limited 4×4 and the Limited petrol automatic. Speaking of features in the top-spec versions, the Compass Limited variant gets bi-function projector halogen headlamps, rear parcel shelf, seven-inch touchscreen display with AC controls, android with apple CarPlay, dual zone temperature control, activated carbon air filler and signature LED position lamps. Additionally, it also gets scuff plates, reverse parking sensors and a reverse parking camera.
Mechanically, the petrol version is powered by a 1.4-litre Multiair engine that generates 160bhp of power and 250Nm of torque, while the diesel version gets a 2.0-litre MultiJet II engine that generates 170bhp of power and 350Nm of torque. The Sport variant is limited to six-speed manual transmission in petrol as well as diesel variant. The Longitude variant is limited to diesel engine that comes mated to a six-speed manual transmission. The top of the line Limited variant is available in six-speed diesel and the petrol variant gets a seven-speed DDCT transmission as standard.
