Free higher education is certainly a laudable idea, but at the moment the country cannot afford it.
How many first world countries have free education? If, as now proposed, funds are taken from other departments, they will all have serious sustainability problems next year, leading to near collapse of the infrastructure.
The big question is, however, where will funds come from after the first year? This seems not to have been addressed. Free higher education, at the moment is like putting the cart before the horse – where are the newly educated going to find employment?
It would make sense to first stimulate the economy and thereby create a demand for jobs.
